2018 North by North Youth Track
NxN is a celebration of the north, recognizing today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunity. Involving the next generation of leaders and knowledge holders is critical to designing responsive systems that meet multi-generational interests. Thanks to the Hickel Fellowship in Entrepreneurship at Alaska Pacific University, NxN is excited to be able to incorporate into the Festival’s program a youth track that does exactly that.
Teams of youth from across Anchorage will be inspired by the Arctic Youth Innovation Challenge, which involves the:
- Presentation of a challenge
- Presentation of challenge background
- Concepts of rapid prototyping and innovation
- Presentation practice and pitch to judging panel.
The challenge responds to the four priority areas chosen from the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals based on their applicability to Alaska and opportunity to see innovation applied in a northern context.
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Affordable and Clean Energy
- Climate Action
- Good Health and Well-Being
Youth teams are organized by APU and the Anchorage School District.
The public – youth and otherwise – can participate along the way as observers, with opportunities to contribute and join in the learning experience along the way. Additional youth track activities include:
- Youth dance party
- Maker space
- Create your own – film, music, food
The Youth Track includes the Urban Homestead program of the Anchorage Museum.
